WATCH: Bryce Harper furious with Giants pitcher, benches clear after nearly being hit on back-to-back pitches

Things got testy in the 4th inning as the Philadelphia Phillies took on the San Francisco Giants. The sequence began with Bryce Harper stepping to the plate and ended with the benches clearing during the at-bat.

Giants pitcher Kyle Harrison almost hit Bryce Harper with a pitch high and inside, which the Phillies slugger took exception to:

And how did Harrison respond to the scolding? By going even more inside on the very next pitch, nearly hitting Harper in the head in the process:

Ridiculous. Send him straight to jail. And not regular jail, either, I’m talking Florence ADX Supermax in Colorado. Either that or Pelican Bay, SHU program, he’ll never see the light of day.

Now, I will say, Harper handled the situation with aplomb. Intentional or not, going back to the same spot where you almost hit a guy in the head on the next pitch is total bush league. I’d sat the same thing if it was a Phillies pitcher, but none of our guys are stupid (or bad) enough to do that.

Bryce Harper’s initial reaction to the first pitch was justified, and I applaud his restraint after the second. He’s been hit in the face and thumb over the last three years, both of which resulted in some missed time and, honestly, could have been much, much worse.

This incident also definitely solidified his hatred for the San Francisco Giants and the Bay Area at large. If you recall, Harper got into it with Hunter Strickland seven years ago after being hit by a pitch.

Not only was he wearing the same uniform, it happened the exact same day. That seven-year itch is a real bitch to scratch. Let’s just thank the baseball gods we didn’t get a repeat of one of the worst fights in baseball history.

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
