The Caitlin Clark disrespect continues as Dawn Staley provides another update on her being snubbed from Team USA, which yet again doesn’t clear up the puzzling decision
Many believe that Caitlin Clark earned a place on the U.S. women’s basketball Olympic team this summer. Now, one of the individuals responsible for putting together that roster has revealed new insights into the controversial decision.
South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley, who led Team USA to a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, also served on the selection committee for this year’s team in Paris. In an interview with NBC’s Mike Tirico on Sunday, Staley would have the opportunity to finally clear up this joke of a decision to leave off the face of the WNBA, Caitlin Clark from the team.

“If we had to do it all over again, the way that she’s playing, she would be in really high consideration of making the team because she is playing head and shoulders above a lot of people.” pic.twitter.com/hMYqTsPWzc
It’s too little too late. While I fully respect and appreciate Dawn Staley, who is a Philly native and honestly a legend in this town, I just can’t let this one go. She had the opportunity to finally take a stand here and keep it real about Caitlin. As one of the pioneers of women’s basketball you would think Staley would understand that right?
“As a committee member, you’re charged with putting together best team of players, the best talent. Caitlin is just a rookie in the WNBA. She wasn’t playing bad, but wasn’t playing like she’s playing now,”Staley said. “If we had to do it all over again, the way that she’s playing, she would be in really high consideration for making the team because she is playing head and shoulders above a lot of people, shooting the ball extremely well. She is an elite passer. She’s just got a great basketball IQ and she’s a little more seasoned in the pro game in a couple of months than she was two months ago.”
You can keep saying the same old bullshit, but at the end of the day the people want to see Caitlin Clark play basketball. A prime example was Caitlin Clark’s WNBA debut, which broke ESPN’s viewership record. The Fever-Sun matchup peaked at 2.3 million viewers, this mark broke the previous record set on May 22, 2004, when Diana Taurasi played her second career WNBA game. “WNBA Countdown” averaged 680,000 viewers, up 126% from the 2023 average.
So, miss me with all this rookie talk, she led the WNBA team on to victory at All-Star weekend over that overhyped USA team. You mean to tell me you can’t find a spot on the roster for the face of the league? Give me a break.
You want to talk basketball?
Caitlin Clark is already the best passer in the WNBA and may go down as the greatest of all time. You put her on a team with A’ja Wilson, who is a dominant interior presence, and let her play alongside Sabrina Ionescu; there will be easy open looks every possession. Not to mention the gravity she attracts the second she crosses from half court due to her Curry-like range.
The fact that Caitlin hitting a rookie wall for a very brief period is the reason they left her off Team USA is a joke. She is still having an historic season and Dawn Staley’s updated response to this decision is barely better than her original one.

Play both sides of fence. If she had been black and gay she would have been on the team. You should resign from coaching and remove yourself from the public eye forever.
