WATCH: Daniel Jones at center of Giants-Lions training camp fight

The New York Giants and Detroit Lions held a join training camp practice on Monday and Daniel Jones was in the center of one of the fights that broke out.

Honestly, I’m not sure anyone wants Danny Dimes as the centerpiece of a training camp fight.

The Giants already made a huge mistake by paying him a whopping $35.5 million in guaranteed money this season and now he’s out there trying to fight dudes that are twice his size?

I understand that Daniel Jones is trying to earn the respect of his teammates after getting such a ridiculous contract while playing like complete ass but there are other ways to do that.

Maybe just buy your offensive line a nice steak dinner or something? 

This could also be the result of some misguided direction from the Giants front office.

After the Giants appeared on Hard Knocks and we all witnessed tragedy unfold inside the front office as they lost out on re-signing Saquon Barkley on top of having to cope with the fact that he signed with their NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles, maybe they are putting it on Daniel Jones to show some fight for the rest of the offense.

Either way, it doesn’t seem like a smart move. Jones signed a four-year, $160 million contract in 2023 and the Giants are on record in using the amount of money given to their “franchise quarterback” as a reason to justify other roster moves.

“You’re paying the guy $40 million. It’s not to hand the ball off to a $12 million back” 

Not the craziest statement to make. Most teams have gone the “pay the QB, not the RB” route in the past given the rising cost of quarterback salaries across the NFL.

At the same time, I’m not sure Schoen meant having his overpaid quarterback starting fights at training camp – but as usual, Daniel Jones just doesn’t have a grasp on what’s expected of him as the starter for the Giants.
