NFL Rumors: James Bradberry expected to remain with Eagles for 2024 season
Veteran CB James Bradberry has been in trade rumors throughout training camp, but it appears he’ll remain in Philadelphia for now.
Bradberry is coming off a dreadful 2023 campaign, allowing 689 yards and nine touchdowns when targeted by opposing quarterbacks. Many believed he would be moved by trade or outright release this offseason.
Bradberry’s future with the team became even murkier when the Eagles drafted stout CBs Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in this year’s NFL Draft.
With a surplus of talent now at cornerback, Bradberry approached the coaching staff about a potential transition to safety. According to reporters, the position change has been ‘better than expected.’
“Vic Fangio says James Bradberry is doing better at safety than he expected,” 94WIP.com’s Eliot Shorr-Parks said. “Says his football IQ is helping him make the transition from cornerback.”
“James has got a good feel for football,” Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio said. “Very knowledgeable. So that will help him in that transition.”
Bradberry is showing his value as a backup safety, and the Eagles are reportedly intent on keeping the veteran on the roster rather than eating a $15.1M cap hit by cutting him.
The Eagles have been dealing with injuries at the position throughout the summer. Second-year safety Sydney Brown is still working his way back from a torn ACL, and C.J. Gardner Johnson missed time with a shoulder issue. Reed Blankenship also has an injury history of his own.
Bradberry could find himself in the safety rotation as the calendar creeps closer to September.

I can still play corner, but I just want to be a valuable piece. I played a lot of under and Nickel, so I thought, why not?.. I… pic.twitter.com/Df0WekETs6
