Here’s why Eagles rookie Makai Lemon could be on the verge of a breakout

We need to seriously pump the brakes on this “Makai Lemon is a bust” talk this early on Eagles fans.

An Eagles fan on Twitter just put together a tape showing every non-screen route Lemon ran against the Titans. And honestly? There is a lot to like here.

Well, I’m not denying he’s looked like a rookie who missed a ton of training camp. That’s not exactly shocking.

Lemon missed significant time with a hamstring injury and only returned to full participation late in August. He’s now trying to learn a completely new NFL offense while building chemistry with Jalen Hurts.

Give the kid a damn minute. And here’s the frustrating part: It’s not even necessarily Lemon’s fault that his box score looks ugly.

Sean Mannion keeps calling these stupid WR screens for him.

They aren’t working. We’ve seen it repeatedly. And even other Eagles film analysts have pointed out that the behind-the-line stuff isn’t doing Lemon any favors.

So maybe… I don’t know… stop calling them?

Release the shackles Sean Mannion! The kid is ready. He had a very nice 14 yard gain in the middle of the field against the Titans on Sunday. And as the tape shows, he is started to get some separation.

We just need the offensive line to holdup and Jalen to keep building confidence and chemistry with the rookie.

It’s a shame because other than this, Mannion’s passing offense has looked awesome. The route trees for Smitty and Wicks have been phenomenal. By far the best we’ve seen in this era of Eagles football.

It’s only a matter of time till we get our young stud Lemon rolling.
