Eagles’ Brandon Graham, Josh Sweat shed light on pass rushing woes ahead of Week 3 matchup with New Orleans
Through two weeks, the Eagles defensive line has grossly underperformed. Milton Williams is the only defensive lineman to record a sack thus far, and Josh Sweat is the only other pass rusher to tally a QB hit.
It’s not for a lack of talent. The Eagles have a lot of potential along their defensive front, they just haven’t been able to put it all together and play as a complete unit yet.
“We’re not on the same page, man,” Sweat told reporters after Monday night’s gut wrenching loss to Atlanta. “We’re just not rushing together.”
While it was easy to excuse the lack of pass rushing production in Week 1 playing on an ice rink in Brazil, there were no excuses after their performance Monday night. Atlanta has a so-so offensive line and their quarterback, Kirk Cousins, has cement blocks for feet. The dude can’t move at all. Nevertheless, the Eagles pass rushers couldn’t even get close.

Brandon Graham spoke on the pass rushing woes following the game, challenging his fellow lineman to do their jobs.
BG on the Eagles pass rush through two weeks:
“For us, we just want to do our job, that’s the biggest thing that I’m taking away from this game [against Atlanta],” Graham said. “We’ve got to make sure we trust the other guy is going to be where they’re supposed to be.”
A lot of blame has been thrown at newly acquired edge rusher Bryce Huff, and rightfully so. He’s been a no-show through the first two games after receiving a $51M deal this offseason.
“I need to find myself in the scheme at the end of the day,” Huff told reporters postgame. “I need to talk to my coaches to see where I can improve and continue to get better.”
Whatever the issue is, these guys need to figure it out quickly. They’re the cornerstone of Vic Fangio’s defense. Without a solid pass rush, the defensive backs are going to suffer. Without gap control and holding the line of scrimmage, the linebackers are going to suffer.
The Eagles defensive line play dictates how the defense plays as a whole. If they continue to struggle, the defense is going to struggle.
