Some jersey numbers just look bad. In John Ross’ case, it’s damn near criminal.

After getting elevated to the Philadelphia Eagles active roster from the practice squad, the team announced Ross will be wearing No. 38. A disgusting number for any position, really. For a wide receiver, it makes my eyes bleed.

During the preseason, he wore No. 83, so I guess he just got lazy and decided to flip the number. Unfortunately for Ross, 83 is currently being occupied by Jahan Dotson — the wideout the Eagles brought in to essentially take Ross’ roster spot.

A bit of cruel irony there. Nevertheless, John Ross deserves better than No. 38. Numbers 15, 18, or even 24 would have been better than 38 — and all of them are available.

Honestly, I hope Ross balls out on Sunday and makes me eat my words. Maybe make No. 38 cool. Only time will tell.
