Let’s run through a quick recap of everything that’s happened with Darius Slay over the past few days. He Tweeted out his career stats after an ugly loss to the Buccaneers, proceeded to hop on Micah Parsons’ podcast the next day and laughed about CJ Gardner-Johnson getting burnt, then he released an apology video that actually seemed pretty heart felt.
It’s somehow become one of the biggest stories in sports this week.
I think I speak for most Eagles fans when I say I’m kind of over this whole thing now. But when Brian Dawkins talks about anything regarding the team, it’s worth listening to.
Dawkins is one of only two players in my lifetime who truly embodied being a Philadelphia Eagle — the other being Jason Kelce. Dawk understands this fanbase and what makes us tick. Slay, clearly, does not.
His apology video is nice to see, but none of what he said will matter if the team continues to struggle when they come back from the bye week. That’s essentially what Brian Dawkins was getting at in his Tweet.
All the social media noise, good or bad, means nothing at the end of the day. What happens on the field will always trump it.
If Slay wants to get back in the good graces of Eagles fans, he should take Dawkins advice here. Step up, live up to your Big Play name, and help this team turn it around before it’s too late.
