Paul George injury update leaves more questions than answers
The Philadelphia 76ers’ new addition, Paul George, sustained a left knee hyperextension during the second quarter of a preseason matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. He did not return for the second half, and depending on how serious the injury is, he may be sidelined for the season opener.
Shams Charania gave a mostly positive update about the severity of the injury, but Paul George’s status for the home opener is still up in the air:

I’ll be honest, hearing the phrase “Sixers officials told me” before an injury update immediately makes whatever information that follows dubious at best.
The Sixers are incredibly fortunate there’s no serious issues or structural damage. While season opener remains in doubt, it’s a long 82-game season.
Here’s the injury again for those who missed it. It was scary in the moment, so thank god this season didn’t go up in smoke in preseason.

A hyperextended knee itself isn’t a specific injury, but it can lead to various complications. Some might heal in a few days, while others could take gulp months to recover.
Even with this update from Shams (thanks for nothing), we’re not sure about the specifics or the recovery timeline for Paul George. However, given the 76ers’ history, it’s understandable to brace for the worst.
Adding to the uncertainty, Joel Embiid is still dealing with his own knee issues as the season approaches, which isn’t the ideal start many fans were hoping for. While there’s no need to panic… I’ll admit I’m definitely feeling anxious.
So, let’s just say we had an incredible season! Now, it looks like we might need to focus on bouncing back in 2025!
