Legendary: Sabrina Ionescu hits insane game-winner in WNBA Finals and Stephen Curry leaves a lively voice memo in response
In a thrilling moment that will go down in WNBA history, New York Liberty’s star guard Sabrina Ionescu hit a clutch shot to seal Game 3 of the WNBA Finals against the Minnesota Lynx on Wednesday. With the score tied at 77 and just seconds remaining in the 4th quarter, Ionescu calmly drained a deep pull-up three pointer, securing the victory and sending shockwaves through the basketball world.
This shot, truly one for the ages, showcased Ionescu’s ice-cold composure, similarily to when she went toe to toe with Stephen Curry in the 3pt contest. This just further cemented her place as one of the game’s brightest young stars.

The three-time WNBA All Star Sabrina Ionescu is known for her long-range shooting, but this was truly unreal, given the distance. Despite having a tough game until then, Ionescu ended with 13 points, including the most crucial shot of the night and possibly one of the most significant in WNBA Finals history. The Liberty now hold a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven-series.
After Ionescu’s game-winning three-pointer capped off a 80-77 victory for the Liberty over the Lynx, her phone was obviously flooded with missed calls and text messages. However, one conversation caught her attention more than any of the others.
“Steph Curry left me a really funny voice memo of him just screaming into the phone. And that was funny. We’ve just had a great relationship; he’s been a big mentor of mine. Obviously, through this Finals, helping me mentally and physically just stay ready and locked in.”
Sabrina Ionescu’s game draws plenty of comparisons to the 36-year-old sharpshooter, and after their electric showdown at NBA All-Star Weekend, it’s clear they’ve developed a special connection. During the inaugural “Stephen vs. Sabrina Three-Point Challenge,” the two put on an absolute clinic in Indianapolis. Curry came out on top, barely edging Ionescu with a 29-26 win, but both players were on fire, making it a spectacle to remember.
Thanks to Ionescu’s clutch heroics, the New York Liberty are now just one win away from capturing their first-ever championship. The stage is set for Game 4 of the WNBA Finals, with tip-off coming Friday at 8:00 p.m. ET from Target Center. Buckle up—this one’s going to be huge.
