This golf outing was part of Obama’s Philadelphia trip, which included a rally for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris the day before. The chance to golf with a former Nobel Peace Prize laureate and U.S. president was an opportunity Hurts couldn’t turn down, even if it was a bit ironic. Over the summer, Hurts recalled how Lurie advised him to steer clear of the golf course: “I was told not to golf by Mr. Lurie—funny story, I’ll tell you another day,” he joked in August.
On the field, Hurts and Barkley have been essential in lifting the Eagles to a new level this season. Currently riding a three-game winning streak, the Birds have left their early-season inconsistencies behind, dominating the Cincinnati Bengals with a 37-17 performance this past weekend.
Hurts has been unstoppable, notching nine total touchdowns and zero turnovers in the past three games, showing growth in his consistency and leadership. Meanwhile, Barkley has quickly proven his worth to the Eagles’ offense. The 27-year-old running back is now second in the NFL with 766 rushing yards, adding five touchdowns on the ground and another receiving score, making him a dynamic asset for Philadelphia.
After a rocky 2-2 start that conjured memories of last season’s frustrations, the Eagles are back on solid footing with a 5-2 record, making them serious contenders in the NFC once again. The synergy between Hurts and Barkley, combined with a balanced defense, has renewed confidence in the team and its fanbase. And while the day on the links with Obama provided a fun reprieve, it’s clear that Philadelphia’s focus is squarely on the field as they eye a deep postseason run.
