Eagles rookie CB Quinyon Mitchell is a fan of his new nickname
It hasn’t taken long for rookie corner Quinyon Mitchell to acclimate to the NFL.
Drafted No. 22 overall out of Toledo by the Eagles, Mitchell has started every game this season opposite Darius Slay and hasn’t looked back.
From Ja’Marr Chase to Terry McLaurin, top receivers across the league have yet to crack the code of Quinyon Mitchell.
WR1’s vs Mitchell this year:
- Drake London: 1 catch, 5 yards
- Chris Olave: 2 catches, 23 yards
- Mike Evans: 2 catches, 19 yards
- Amari Cooper: 1 catch, 10 yards
- Malik Nabers: 1 catch, 9 yards
- Ja’Marr Chase: 2 catches, 16 yards
- CeeDee Lamb: 1 catch, 5 yards
- Terry McLaurin: 0 catches, 0 yards
With these lockdown performances, Eagles fans have tagged Mitchell with the nickname ‘Quintanamo Bay,’ a word play off Guantanamo Bay detention camp — a.k.a. JAIL.
Reporters asked Mitchell on Wednesday if he’d heard about his new nickname, to which Mitchell replied, “I like it. I think it’s cool.”
Mitchell is the only corner in the NFL to have faced 375+ coverage snaps and not allow a single touchdown this season. His nickname is well-earned, as Mitchell is firmly entrenched in the Defensive Rookie of the Year race with Rams edge-rusher Jared Verse.
His next test comes Sunday night when the Eagles face Rams’ star receivers Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua.
