Eagles tight end in danger of landing on injured reserve following win vs. Ravens

Eagles TE Dallas Goedert reportedly avoided serious injury in Sunday’s win over the Ravens, but he may be out for a few weeks.

According to the Inquirer’s Jeff McLane, Goedert is expected to miss time and could even land on injured reserve.

Goedert contributed three catches for 35 yards and a touchdown before exiting yesterday’s game. If Godert is placed on IR, he’ll miss the next four games and will not be eligible to return until the season finale against the Giants.

Availability has been an issue for Goedert. He hasn’t played a full season since 2018 and missed three games earlier this year due to a hamstring injury.

Grant Calcaterra stepped up in Goedert’s absence during that stretch and will be asked to do so again until the postseason.

It may be time for the Eagles to start looking at tight ends in next year’s NFL draft. Brent Celek was in his seventh year when they drafted Zach Ertz. Ertz was in his sixth year when the Eagles drafted Dallas Goedert.

Goedert, who turns 30 next month, is in his seventh season and becoming unreliable. His contract situation will be a talking point this spring as well.

Tight ends don’t have a high usage rate in Philadelphia’s run-heavy offense. Does Goedert’s minimal role warrant the price? Trading him on the last year of his deal may be something Howie Roseman explores.

Alas, that’s a conversation for another time. Let’s hope Goedert can get back healthy for the Eagles’ impending playoff run.
