Zack Baun Masterclass: Eagles’ linebacker continues dominant season, makes NFL history after latest performance vs Ravens

Zack Baun continues to prove that he is a difference maker and undoubtedly the heart and soul of the Philadelphia Eagles defense.

Sunday’s 24-19 win over the Baltimore Ravens wasn’t just a hard-fought road victory—it was a statement. The Eagles held one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses to just two touchdowns, the second of which came in garbage time when the game was already decided.

Lamar Jackson was sacked three times and felt wire-to-wire pressure from the defense- who also managed to keep Derrick Henry in check.

There were plenty of standout players, such as Cooper DeJean and Jalen Carter but at the end of the game, Zack Baun was the guy yet again, leading the charge.

Baun delivered another performance for the ages against the Ravens, piling up 13 tackles (a game-high), a sack on a crucial third down, a tackle for loss on another third down, a quarterback hit, and a forced fumble that derailed a Baltimore drive.

Zack Baun tormented Lamar Jackson all night long:

He was everywhere, single-handedly destroying multiple plays and proving once again why he’s having one of the most impactful seasons of any defender in the NFL.

Through 12 games, Baun’s numbers are staggering: 118 tackles (4th in the league), 4 forced fumbles (best among linebackers), 2.5 sacks, 6 tackles for loss, and 1 interception.

Zack Baun stuffs Derrick Henry in the backfield:

For perspective, compare that to Luke Kuechly’s Defensive Player of the Year pace in 2013. Baun’s stats not only hold up—they surpass Kuechly’s through the same stretch. Kuechly had 102 tackles, 7 TFL, 1 sack, and 3 INTs through 12 games.

Baun has more tackles, sacks, and forced fumbles, putting himself firmly in the conversation for this year’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Zack Baun is making NFL history

He’s the first player in NFL history (since tackles were officially recorded in 1987) to have 100+ tackles, 2+ sacks, and 4+ forced fumbles through the first 12 games of a season. He also leads the NFL in defensive stops with 52, ahead of elite names like Roquan Smith (45) and Nakobe Dean (43).

Pro Football Focus now ranks Baun as the highest-graded linebacker in the league, surpassing even Fred Warner. His transformation from an underutilized player with the Saints into a defensive powerhouse in Philadelphia is nothing short of remarkable.

In four years with New Orleans, Baun totaled just 88 tackles and 2 sacks. In less than one full season with the Eagles, he’s already obliterated those numbers. He’s not just a great addition—he’s arguably the best free-agent signing of the offseason and a lock for the All-Pro team.

The way Baun is playing, he’s not just making an impact—he’s redefining it. The Eagles brought him in as a complementary piece, but he’s turned into a cornerstone, elevating the defense to one of the most feared units in the league.

As the Eagles march toward the postseason, Zack Baun has become their X-factor. With his relentless motor, ability to wreck plays in key moments, and knack for creating turnovers, he’s proven to be a player who can swing games.

Baun isn’t just having a good season—he’s putting together a campaign for the ages. Defensive Player of the Year? All-Pro honors? Both seem well within reach for one of the NFL’s most dominant linebackers. If Zack Baun can keep up this dominant pace, the Eagles’ defense might just carry the team all the way to the promised land.
