WATCH: CJ Gardner-Johnson ejected for basically nothing in the 3rd quarter, Eagles-Commanders game

I mean seriously…this is the kind of decision that makes fans question the league’s officiating standards. Is this football or a kindergarten classroom?

While Gardner-Johnson plays with an edge and a ton of emotion, and his ejection is a bad look in a game with NFC East title implications, the officiating is just as much to blame. Yes, CJGJ has to know when to reel it in—he’s too important to the Eagles’ defense to be sidelined for something as avoidable as chirping.

NFL officiating continues to be a pathetic joke.

In a hard-fought divisional game with postseason stakes, officials decided to prioritize policing words over ensuring fairness and consistency. CJ Gardner-Johnson getting tossed for some heated trash talk is peak absurdity.

Before the ejection, Gardner-Johnson was making plays as usual. He snagged his team-leading fourth interception earlier in the game, proving once again why he’s such a valuable piece of the Eagles’ defense. His ability to create turnovers has been a game-changer this season, and his absence puts more pressure on an already vulnerable secondary.

The Eagles turned to backup Tristin McCollum to fill the void, with rookie Sydney Brown also available. But neither can replicate CJ Gardner-Johnson’s playmaking ability, leaving a major hole in the middle of the field as Washington’s offense looks to capitalize.

Gardner-Johnson needs to control his emotions in critical moments. Getting ejected while your team is trying to secure a divisional title is sloppy and frustrating, but let’s not ignore the elephant in the room: the NFL officiating crew embarrassed itself here.

Throwing out one of the league’s most dynamic safeties for “saying something mean” while turning a blind eye to other chippy behavior is a joke. Fans want to see football decided on the field—not by inconsistent, soft officiating.

The Eagles now have to regroup without Gardner-Johnson and hope this ridiculous decision doesn’t cost them a critical win. But one thing’s for sure: the NFL has some serious explaining to do.
