Go Birds: Jalen Brunson conducts humiliation ritual on Jon Stewart, forces him to wear Saquon jersey, Eagles gear to Knicks game
JON STEWART – Jalen Brunson may be the face of the Knicks, but that’s strictly business. When it comes to football and really, sports fandom in general, his heart belongs to the city of Philadelphia.
Despite playing in a city full of Giants fans (thoughts and prayers) who are jealous of all things Philly, Brunson has never backed down from repping his Birds—even when trolling a New York icon like Jon Stewart. The comedian and longtime diehard Giants fan made the mistake of betting against the Eagles, and was forced to pay the price in humiliating fashion.
Jon Stewart wearing Eagles gear, Saquon jersey to Knicks game
Jalen Brunson and Jon Stewart Eagles-Giants Bet:
Back in September, Stewart appeared on Brunson and Josh Hart’s “Roommates Show: Block Party” and made a friendly wager with Brunson over the Eagles-Giants season series.
The terms were simple. If the Eagles won, Jon Stewart would have to wear a Saquon Barkley Eagles jersey to a Knicks game. If the Giants won, Stewart could pick any jersey for Brunson to wear when arriving for a game.
The Giants and Eagles obviously played twice this season, but neither game was even close. The Birds swept the regular season series, leaving Stewart no escape from his fate.
And now, on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, Stewart paid off the bet in full—rocking a Saquon Barkley Eagles jersey for all of New York to see.
Nothing new here, just another loss for the New York Giants
New York fans already have a, let’s just say, complicated relationship with Saquon Barkley.
He was the face of the franchise, one of the few bright spots during years of mediocrity, and the best player they’ve had since Eli Manning. Then, they let him walk, and he signed here in Philly during free agency, making Giants fans sick to their stomachs.
Good.
Now, seeing one of their own legends on an Eagles jersey—and worn by one of New York’s most famous sports fans—is just adding insult to injury. The Knicks crowd probably hated every second of this, while Brunson was loving every second of it.
Jalen Brunson: Philly Through and Through
Even though Brunson is the Knicks’ biggest star, he never strays from his Philly roots. He’s from Cherry Hill, New Jersey and obviously won two national championships with Nova. Now, despite playing in the worst sports city on planet earth, he’s still repping the Birds.
Respect.
Final Thoughts: Never Bet Against Philly
Stewart thought he had a chance when he made this bet, but he should’ve known better. The Giants weren’t beating the Eagles, and now he’s taking a walk of shame through Madison Square Garden wearing enemy colors.
Side Note: Jon Stewart All-Time Reaction Last Year’s Playoffs (lol)
Some lessons are learned the hard way. Good. Go Birds, Jon.
