WATCH: Eagles HC Nick Sirianni says he wants Dallas Goedert back

Throughout the offseason, there’s been a lot of trade speculation surrounding Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert. At 30 years old and entering the final year of his contract, all signs are point towards a departure from Philadelphia.

Nevertheless, he’s been a great offensive weapon for the Birds throughout his tenure, and in a perfect world, he’d be back in midnight green next season. Unfortunately, that’s not how the NFL works.

Nick Sirianni understands that. When asked about Goedert specifically at the NFL owners meetings, Sirianni was candid in his response.

Eagles want Dallas Goedert back, but it doesn’t sound like it’ll happen

“Right now, he’s on our football team. And obviously Dallas Goedert has meant a lot to us,” Sirianni said. “We’ll see how that plays out. He’s heck of a football player, heck of a leader. [We] want to be able to have back as many guys as you possibly can but that’s not the reality of the NFL. We’ll see what happens and how that happens but of course you want everyone back.”

If Goedert is going to get traded, it probably won’t happen until draft night, or in the weeks leading up to the NFL Draft. I would imagine most teams would like to just draft a tight end if they need one, given the depth at the position in this year’s class.

It doesn’t mean a team won’t be willing to trade for Goedert, it just means the Eagles probably won’t get as much as they’d like in return.
