Eagles DC Vic Fangio reveals his plans for Cooper DeJean moving forward

Despite the Eagles’ losses on defense this offseason, DC Vic Fangio has no plans to move CB Cooper DeJean outside.

NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark caught up with Fangio at a recent Phillies game and got his thoughts on DeJean’s future in Philadelphia:

“I really like him as the nickel. I’d like to see him stay at nickel,” Fangio said. “He plays it very well. He’s got good size in there. I think he enjoys playing in that position.”

DeJean had an outstanding rookie season, finishing as PFF’s highest-graded cornerback and allowing zero touchdowns in coverage.

The Eagles’ defense instantly transformed once DeJean was inserted into the starting lineup after the bye week. His pick-six off Patrick Mahomes in Super Bowl LIX culminated in Philadelphia’s second championship, stopping Kansas City’s quest for a historic three-peat.

With cornerbacks Darius Slay and Isaiah Rodgers signing elsewhere in free agency, some wondered if DeJean would move outside given his versatility. Fangio has smartly decided to keep DeJean where he is most effective.

As the roster currently stands, third-year player Kelee Ringo will compete with newly-signed Adoree’ Jackson for the outside job opposite Quinyon Mitchell.
