Eagles could cash in big if Howie Roseman flips Tanner McKee to the Saints

The Eagles just might have another quarterback trade heist on their hands — and we’ve seen this movie before.

With Derek Carr reportedly dealing with a shoulder injury that could impact his 2025 season, the New Orleans Saints are in panic mode. Their QB room is basically a tossed-together trio of Jake Haener, Spencer Rattler, and Ben DiNucci. None of them are remotely inspiring.

Enter Tanner McKee.

The Eagles’ sixth-round pick from 2023 waited patiently and made the most of his NFL debut last season. Stepping in for Kenny Pickett, McKee threw two touchdown passes on just four attempts, becoming the first player in the modern draft era to do so. He finished with a perfect 156.2 passer rating and instantly looked like a guy who could run an offense if needed.

On top of that, he’s cheap. Just over $1 million against the cap. For a team like the Saints, who are constantly fighting the salary cap and now staring down a gaping hole at quarterback, McKee makes a ton of sense. Not to mention, Kellen Moore is familiar with McKee and knows he can run his offense effectively.

The Eagles have made a living off QB heists

This is exactly the kind of situation Howie Roseman thrives in.

Remember 2016? The Vikings lost Teddy Bridgewater to a freak injury right before the season, and Roseman didn’t hesitate. He flipped Sam Bradford — a guy everyone thought would be the Eagles’ starter — to Minnesota for a first-round pick and a conditional fourth. That first-rounder helped the Eagles land Derek Barnett, who would go on to recover the fumble that sealed the Super Bowl. It was one of the most lopsided trades of the decade.

Fast forward to 2021, Roseman pulled off another masterstroke. After a disappointing season, the Eagles traded Carson Wentz to the Colts for a 2021 third-round pick and a conditional 2022 second-round pick. Roseman transformed those assets into key players like DeVonta Smith, AJ Brown, Jalen Carter, and Cooper DeJean. These players were instrumental in the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX victory and have positioned the team as contenders for years to come.

Now, McKee isn’t Bradford or Wentz, but that’s the point. He’s better. Or at least more valuable right now. Bradford was a stopgap. Wentz was washed. McKee is a developmental quarterback who just showed he can hang in real NFL action, and he’s still on a rookie deal.

If the Saints are desperate enough — and all signs point to them being exactly that — the Eagles could cash in. A first-round pick? A future pick? A player with upside? Whatever it ends up being, don’t be shocked if Howie pulls the trigger.

This is what the Eagles do. Quarterback factory, baby. And business might be booming again.
