Eagles Steelers Draft Trade

Draft Rumor: Eagles could find perfect trade partner in Pittsburgh if they want to move out of pick 32

If the Eagles decide to trade out of the No. 32 overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers might be the perfect team to make it happen.

Pittsburgh’s in the market for a quarterback, and all signs point to Alabama’s Jalen Milroe catching their eye. He’s the best running QB in this year’s class and has drawn more than a few comparisons to Jalen Hurts. Funny enough, the Steelers were reportedly very interested in Hurts back in 2020, before the Eagles scooped him up in the second-round and turned him into a franchise cornerstone.

Now, four years later, the Steelers have a chance to get a Hurts-type of their own — if they can find a way to move up and grab Milroe before someone else does. That’s where Philly comes in.

Eagles have been here before and made it work

If this all sounds familiar, it’s because the Eagles have done this exact thing before. Go back to 2018: Philly held the final pick in the first round after winning the Super Bowl, and Baltimore wanted to move up to take a chance on a raw, athletic quarterback who could completely change the direction of their franchise. That quarterback was Lamar Jackson.

The Eagles traded out of No. 32, picked up more draft capital, and let the Ravens take their swing. We all know how that turned out.

Milroe isn’t Lamar, but the situation lines up pretty cleanly. A late first-round pick, a QB with elite athleticism, and a team willing to move up and get their guy. The Eagles are once again sitting at No. 32 after a Super Bowl appearance, and the Steelers might be just desperate enough to pick up the phone.

Perfect opportunity to add future capital

Howie Roseman has never been shy about moving around the board if it means gaining value. Trading back this year would allow the Eagles to stockpile picks for next year, or even grab an extra Day 2 selection and still land a player they like early in the second-round.

And if Pittsburgh wants to make up for missing on Hurts back in 2020, this might be their shot to find a quarterback with a similar skill set. If they’re serious about Milroe, the Eagles should absolutely take advantage of that.

We’ve seen Howie pull this off before. Don’t be surprised if he does it again.
