Eagles Kyle Pitts Trade

Trade prediction sees Eagles land former Top-5 pick

It’s that part of the offseason again — where everyone pitches ideas for a possible Eagles trade. Do I enjoy writing about this type of stuff? Not necessarily. Will I continue to do it to scratch my relentless itch for football? Absolutely.

This latest trade prediction comes from BVM Sports. With both the Eagles and Falcons looking to offload their tight ends, BVM thinks a Dallas Goedert for Kyle Pitts trade makes sense for both sides. They wrote their article as if it’s actually in the works… It’s hard to tell if this is simply a trade pitch or a news report.

Regardless, here’s what they had to say.

Why the Eagles may want to target Pitts:

“While the Eagles aim to offload Goedert’s contract, there are concerns that trading away a proven playoff performer might weaken their offense. Pitts has significant potential but has not consistently produced at the expected level, raising questions about his reliability as a long-term investment.

Acquiring Kyle Pitts could revitalize the Eagles’ offense, but betting on a player who has underperformed may come with risks. A strategic trade package will be essential to balance potential gains against the loss of an established player like Goedert.”

While I can get down with the idea of Kyle Pitts revitalizing his career here in Philly, this trade wouldn’t make much sense for either side — especially before the upcoming NFL Draft.

Pitts, like Goedert, is entering a contract year. Atlanta exercised Pitts’ fifth-year option, meaning he’s guaranteed a $10.7M salary this season before becoming an unrestricted free agent next offseason. Goedert’s cap hit going into 2025 is slightly higher than Pitts, sitting at $11.7M.

From what I’ve gathered on the Goedert trade rumors is, the team just doesn’t want to lose him for nothing next offseason when he’s a free agent. He’s about to be 30 and has had health issues throughout his entire career. I don’t think re-signing him is on the board here. So why acquire another tight end who’s also on an expiring contract? Especially one who will demand a hefty payday if he balls out in Philly.

The best path forward is drafting a tight end and keeping that position cheap for a few years. With all the big contracts coming up like Jalen Carter, Quinyon Mitchell, and Cooper DeJean, the Eagles can’t really afford to invest a ton of capital into the tight end position.

A trade for Kyle Pitts sounds sexy, but when you sit to think about it for more than five minutes, it doesn’t make much sense at all.
