Jakob Glesnes Union Goal

WATCH: Philadelphia Union’s Jakob Glesnes’ goal from all angles is pure filth

This is one of the best goals you’ll see in MLS all season and it came off the foot of Jakob Glesnes of the Philadelphia Union.

Absolute filth. Caught it flush, full volley, from a center back no less. Jakob Glesnes has made a habit of scoring outrageous goals during his Union career, but this one might be his most technically ridiculous yet.

It’s one thing to get your foot on a ball like that — it’s another to absolutely lace it clean without needing a massive swing. No flailing, no awkward shank, just a smooth rocket straight off the laces.

Normally, in that spot, guys are trying to baby the ball with a side-footed volley just to keep it from flying into the 300 level. Glesnes? He just puts his laces through it, keeps it down, and rips a shot that probably registered on the Richter scale.

The back angle is even better. You can actually see how little effort he needed to generate that much power. Pure touch, pure confidence, pure filth.

As for the Philadelphia Union…

I’m still not happy about the Apple TV+ paywall. It’s killed the “casual viewer” of Union soccer but that’s just an MLS issue. The Union are actually pretty good this season. They handled business Saturday with a clean 3-0 win, climbing to third place in the East.

After that weird three-game winless skid, they’ve ripped off two straight and look like what we thought they were — a playoff team.

This isn’t Inter Miami with 50 million dollars of salary and celebrity cameos every other week. This is gritty, Philly soccer: get young, get hungry, and run lesser teams into the ground.

Sure, losing Daniel Gazdag (trade) and Ian Glavinovich (injury) stings. But as long as:

  • Kai Wagner stays healthy,
  • Andre Blake keeps doing Andre Blake things,
  • Nathan Harriel holds the fort at CB2,
  • Glesnes doesn’t revert to the occasional chaos machine he was last year,

They’ll be fine.

Union trade Daniel Gazdag to Columbus for cash, stay ruthlessly committed to the reload

This team doesn’t need to flash. They just need to grind, stack points, and bully their way into the playoffs — the same formula that’s worked before.

There’s something refreshing about it too. In a league chasing “bigger names” and Netflix specials, the Union are out here winning games with dudes you haven’t heard of but who are ready to die for 90 minutes on a soccer field.
