Union top East after 10-Game unbeaten streak and late heroics in Toronto
The Philadelphia Union took their steel-toed, blue-collar brand of soccer up north and left BMO Field with all three points — plus a little history to boot.
With last night’s 2-1 win over Toronto FC, the Union jumped to the top of the Eastern Conference and stretched their unbeaten run to 10 matches in all competitions — eight of those coming in league play.
It also marked their first win in Toronto since 2019, breaking a frustrating five-year drought in Ontario.
For the first 75 minutes, the match looked like it might slip away. The Union outshot Toronto 7-4 in the first half but couldn’t break through. Then Ola Brynhildsen scored in the 75th minute, and it felt like one of those nights.
As we’ve seen time and time again this season, the Philadelphia Union do not fold.
In the 86th minute, Homegrown defender Nathan Harriel came flying in and slammed home the equalizer off a set piece. That goal cracked the game open.
In the 92nd, Kai Wagner blasted a rocket from outside the box that deflected past the keeper for the winner. Wagner’s first goal of the season couldn’t have come at a better time, and with seven assists, he now sits tied for second-most in MLS.

This team is built different. They’ve scored 32 goals, dished 38 assists, and lead the league in wins (10) and points (33). Their blueprint is clear — win the battles, press relentlessly, and let the talent do the rest.
It was also a big night in goal, as Andre Blake made his return between the sticks for the first time since May 3rd. Blake didn’t have much to do until late, but he kept things under control and provided the leadership the backline needed.
Let’s not overlook this either — the Union are off to their best start in club history, with 33 points through 16 games. That’s two better than the 2020 squad that ended up winning the Supporters’ Shield.
Next up for the Union
We have a trip to Toyota Stadium for a clash with FC Dallas on Saturday night (8:30 p.m. ET / Apple TV). The unbeaten streak rolls on.
