Kyle Schwarber just took a massive leap in the National League MVP race
Citizens Bank Park turned into a war zone Monday night and Kyle Schwarber was the one dropping bombs. With the game tied 3–3 in the sixth, new guy Harrison Bader delivered what should’ve been the moment of the night, a go-ahead three-run homer and his first hit in a Phillies uniform.

Then came Kyle Schwarber.
Kyle Schwarber mashed two more home runs, including a grand slam for his 40th of the season, in a 13–3 annihilation of the Orioles.
Citizens Bank Park was rocking with “M-V-P” chants before Schwarber even stepped into the box, and by the time he finished circling the bases, Baltimore had been reduced to rubble.

Kyle Schwarber strengthens NL MVP case with yet another unreal performance
The man is an absolute menace and now he’s at 40 home runs through 112 games, making him the fastest player in Phillies history to hit that mark.
Not even Ryan Howard got there that quick (114) and Howard hit 58 in 2006, the only 50-homer season in franchise history.
Kyle Schwarber is now on the NL MVP shortlist
Just 24 hours ago, almost all major sports books had Schwarber’s NL MVP odds around +1000, trailing Pete Crow-Armstrong (+900) and Shohei Ohtani (-700). After last night’s performance, the books have Ohtani (-649) and now Schwarber (+550) in the top two, with PCA now at +1300.
That’s a massive swing and honestly, it should probably be even better than that.
Schwarber by the Numbers:
- 40 HR (1st in NL)
- 94 RBI (1st in MLB)
- On pace for 57 HR, just one shy of Ryan Howard’s franchise record
- Three multi-homer games this season
- MVP chants every time he breathes
As usual, Schwarbs tried to downplay the greatness of it all…
“I’m not trying to go out there and think about records… I’m just trying to help these guys win.”

Phillies are 1.5 games up in the NL East:

With the Mets losing in extras to Cleveland, the Phillies now hold a 1.5-game lead atop the NL East. More importantly, they have the best show in baseball going right now and it’s starring a dude who looks like he drinks three Yuenglings before batting practice.
