Eagles keeping quiet on CB2 camp competition

At this point, we know almost all of the Eagles’ 22 starters for Week 1. The one spot still very much up in the air is CB2, with Kelee Ringo, Adoree Jackson, Jakorian Bennett, and even rookie Mac McWilliams all getting reps with the starting defense in camp.

When asked about the competition, Nick Sirianni kept things close to the chest.

Keeping this battle under wraps isn’t surprising. The Eagles always play things close to the chest in situations like this. That said, Sirianni’s latest comments don’t exactly inspire much confidence in the fanbase.

We all watched Week 1 of the preseason. Ringo was bad, Jackson was just as bad, and neither Jakorian Bennett nor Mac McWilliams saw meaningful snaps. Your guess is as good as mine right now.

Ringo entered camp as the clear favorite for the job, but after getting torched by the Bengals’ starting offense, he’s losing his grip. Same story for Jackson. At this point, it’s fair to assume Bennett might be the front-runner. He’s reportedly been solid in camp since arriving and already has a track record of serviceable play from his time in Vegas.

The wildcard is Cooper DeJean, who played outside corner in college and has gotten some reps there in camp. It’s not ideal, but it might be the best option. Of course, that would leave a big hole at nickel, with no obvious replacement.

We’ll have to wait and see on this one — but don’t be surprised if we don’t know who the starter is until opening night.
