Eagles reportedly looking at former Saints pass rusher to shore up depth

The Eagles can’t help themselves. Howie Roseman sees a defensive end floating out there with some draft pedigree, and suddenly, there are whispers about him showing up in South Philly for a workout. The latest name linked to the Birds? Former Saints second-round pick Isaiah Foskey.

According to CBS Sports, Foskey is set to work out with the Bears this week, but if nothing comes from that, the Eagles are lined up to bring him in next. Foskey, a 2023 second-rounder out of Notre Dame, entered the NFL with sky-high expectations after racking up 26.5 career sacks in college. But in two years with New Orleans, he never lived up to the billing — 27 games, 25 tackles, zero sacks — before getting cut loose this summer.

At just 24 years old, he’s exactly the type of reclamation project the Eagles love to gamble on.

Why the Fit Makes Sense in Philadelphia

We’ve seen this before. Remember Zack Baun? He was nothing more than a rotational guy for the Saints, and then he lands with the Eagles, suddenly blossoms, and ends up First-Team All-Pro and a finalist for Defensive Player of the Year. That’s the kind of turnaround Roseman and this coaching staff love to bet on.

Foskey has the tools — length, burst, and proven production at Notre Dame. The only question is whether Philadelphia’s system can pull something out of him that New Orleans couldn’t.

Timing Could Be Key

First crack goes to the Bears this week, but if that door closes, the Eagles are waiting right after their Week 1 clash with Dallas. A tryout doesn’t guarantee a signing, but it’s a sign the front office isn’t satisfied with the current pass rush depth. With the grind of a 17-game season ahead, Roseman clearly wants extra insurance on the edges.

The Eagles might be setting up another Saints-to-Philly redemption story. If Isaiah Foskey ends up in midnight green, don’t be shocked if the Birds find a way to turn yet another forgotten piece into a legit contributor.
