Eagles Landon Dickerson Week 1 Injuries

Eagles already battling injuries in Week 1, Landon Dickerson headlines growing list

It only took one game. The Eagles’ season opener against Dallas turned into a mash unit with injuries piling up before halftime and bleeding into the second half.

Eagles weather the storm, beat Cowboys 24-20 in opener that had everything

Ben VanSumeren

First it was fullback Ben VanSumeren going down early, then rookie running back Will Shipley disappeared from the sideline at halftime with what was later revealed to be a rib injury. Shipley had three carries for 26 yards and was handling kick return duties before John Metchie stepped in on special teams and A.J. Dillon picked up snaps in the backfield. Shipley clearly had a role carved out in this offense, so the hope is this doesn’t turn into a long-term issue.

Adoree’ Jackson

Adoree’ Jackson gave everyone a scare when he left for a concussion evaluation, though he was eventually cleared. The problem is that he hasn’t exactly played well even when he’s been on the field. Sydney Brown was also banged up after making a tackle but managed to finish the game.

Landon Dickerson

The biggest concern, though, is Landon Dickerson. The Pro Bowl guard already came into Week 1 with back issues after missing time in camp, and he was visibly in pain multiple times against the Cowboys.

He gutted it out for a while but was rolled up on in the fourth quarter, left for the locker room, and never returned. Brett Toth finished the game at left guard.

This isn’t the script you want for a Week 1 game, let alone for a team built on the dominance of its offensive line. Landon Dickerson has a history of pushing through injuries, but with 16 more games on deck, the Eagles can’t afford for him to be limping through the year. The season is too long and the schedule too tough for the offensive line to start shuffling this early.

The Birds walked away with a win, but the injury list is already longer than you’d like after one game. Not exactly the clean start Nick Sirianni had in mind.
