Nick Sirianni refuses to comment on Jalen Carter’s discipline during press conference

Eagles head coach and proud paisan Nick Sirianni put on a masterclass in evasion during his press conference this afternoon. The topic of Jalen Carter’s fine and suspension came up, and Sirianni put up a stone wall any Italian mason would be proud of with his answers.

Nick Sirianni refused to provide any details on Jalen Carter’s in-house discipline:

Here is how it played out in real time:

Hey, Nick, has Eagles DT Jalen Carter learned his lesson?

Sirianni: “Yeah, everything we do with any conversations or anything like that, again, I’ll tell you guys again, I know I respect the job that you guys have to do, but I’ll always keep those conversations in-house. I’ll continue to do that much like if I had a conversation with you, and we work together, and you would probably expect me to do that same thing, and that’s my job as the head coach and all things like that with any conversations with players – whether it’s of something that happens in a game, a moment in the game, there’s information that I’ll always keep in house.”

With respect though, Nick, I’m not asking about the conversation you might’ve had with him. I’m asking…

“Yeah, I answered it how I wanted to answer it.”

What’d you think of the league’s discipline?

Again, “I’m not going to ever get into the same thing with anything with the league. If I agree with a call or if I don’t agree with a call, if I agree with a discipline or if I don’t agree, again, I owe the league that same respect that, again, you don’t air business out there, so won’t get into that either.”

How much do league decisions weigh into how you handle things?

“Yeah, same. Won’t get into that. Again, there’s just certain things, again, I respect the crap out of the job that you guys have to do, but there are certain things that I’ll keep close and there are certain things that I’ll share with you. As you guys know, this isn’t one of them.”

Incredible. Absolutely incredible.

I won’t fault the reporters for trying to get any kind of a legitimate answer out of him. It was a valiant effort, but Sirianni was just too slick with it.

And rightfully so. This is an internal matter. The NFL made its ruling, and now the rest is in the hands of Sirianni. The Eagles are a family, and Sirianni is the head of the household. How its handled from here is no longer of concern to anyone outside the family.

Very real and legitimate journalist. I don't see a loss on the schedule.
