Great: There’s a black hole on the loose in the Milky Way Galaxy
Well, this is awesome. Astronomers have located a rogue black hole traveling through the Milky Way. No companion star, just meandering along, thousands of lightyears from Earth, with no destination in mind.
Read the thread below for the science stuff on this black hole:

Sweet. This isn’t terrifying at all! Here’s the tale of the tape for this
- Location: ~5,000 light-years from Earth
- Mass: ~7 times the Sun
- Type: Stellar-mass black hole (not the supermassive one at our galaxy’s center)
- Status: Drifting alone, with no companion star — a true “wanderer”
I get that five thousand lightyears is a massive distance, but I’ve watched Interstellar. There’s no shot I’m remotely trusting what scientists have to say about it’s potential path. Vigilance is going to be key.
In a way, this is good for me, though. This rogue black hole is going to take up the majority of my anxious machinations when I’m alone with my own thoughts.
The Phillies got eliminated? Doesn’t matter, we’re going to get spaghettified. The Eagles are falling apart at the seams? Who cares, death is imminent. Yet another failed relationship? Okay, that one stings, but we’ll be together again the murky depths of this rogue interstellar phenomenon.
It’s quite literally the antidote for all of life’s daily problems. Sure, it’s not great to walk around constantly thinking about a mass extinction event that will probably never occur in my lifetime, but that’s better than dealing with my actual life.
I never would have thought something like this would turn out to be a blessing in disguise, but the world works in mysterious ways.
