Known dope Howard Eskin thinks it’s time for Eagles to make a change at quarterback
When Howard Eskin’s career is circling the drain and he’s desperate for clicks, there’s always one easy play: take a swing at Jalen Hurts. It’s the oldest trick in the book — and nobody leans on it harder than Eskin. I mean, look at me. I’m here writing about it. Proof that the engagement farm still works.
Howard Eskin hasn’t mattered in Philly sports for years. Maybe that’s because he got banned from Citizens Bank Park after making unwanted advances toward an employee. Or maybe it’s just because his takes have aged like milk. Either way, when you’re washed, there’s only one way to get the algorithm back on your side — go after the Eagles’ quarterback.
During an appearance with fellow relic Dan Sileo, Howard Eskin decided to hit rock bottom: he said it’s time for the Eagles to bench Jalen Hurts in favor of Tanner McKee.
Howard Eskin: “I don’t think the best quarterback on this team is starting right now”
Sileo hyping this up like it’s some groundbreaking revelation is pure comedy. Like some faceless Twitter egg hasn’t fired off this exact take a million times already.
The Eagles aren’t benching Jalen Hurts. Nor should they. The issues with this offense go way deeper than that. Kevin Patullo still hasn’t figured out how to call plays effectively, injuries are stacking up along an underperforming offensive line, and sure, Hurts hasn’t been at his best. Add in Vic Fangio’s defense getting shredded by injuries — now trying to fill another hole after Za’Darius Smith’s retirement — and you’ve got a full-blown mess on your hands.
Things aren’t going well right now, and the knee-jerk reaction from every WIP fossil is the same: bench the quarterback. It’s the same tired playbook they used during the Donovan McNabb years. It quieted down for a bit with Carson Wentz, until the bitter end, and now it’s right back in rotation with Jalen Hurts.
No Eagles quarterback has accomplished more than Hurts in franchise history. That means something. The brownie points don’t last forever, but it should at least buy him a little grace through the first six weeks of the season.
Benching him would do nothing but spark fake drama — which is exactly what Howard Eskin lives for. The more chaotic the Eagles look, the more outrageous Eskin and his WIP cronies can get with their washed-up, galaxy-brain takes.
They only thrive in dysfunction; they short-circuit when things are calm. And that’s how we end up here — with a tired, desperate, braindead rant from a disgraced old man so far removed from Philly sports media that his last resort is hopping on Dan Sileo’s podcast. Really sad stuff.
