Under Armour low balls Caitlin Clark and it may have cost them Stephen Curry as well in a generational fumble

At what point do these brands finally get it? Caitlin Clark is not just a star. She is the axis the sport spins on. The reason arenas sell out.

The reason networks break ratings records. The reason the WNBA suddenly matters to people who weren’t even sure what channel the games were on two years ago.

Yet, against all common sense, Under Armour somehow managed to low ball her so badly that it helped shove Stephen Curry out of the company.

Yes. That Stephen Curry. The only reason Under Armour has a pulse in basketball. Unbelievable.

Under Armour fumbles Caitlin Clark & Stephen Curry

Let’s keep this simple because it truly is. Under Armour had a chance to put the two most influential basketball stars of the era under the same roof. Stephen Curry and Caitlin Clark.

That is a decade of guaranteed profit and global exposure. You lock that up and throw a parade in Baltimore. Instead, they handled this like they were negotiating with a backup point guard on a 10 day contract.

Clark’s Nike deal was already considered a low offer by anyone paying attention. Eight years, twenty eight million. Everyone expected Under Armour to come in hotter. Instead, they came in lower. Lower. On Caitlin Clark. In 2024.

Whoever approved that number should be banned from negotiating anything more serious than a Little League uniform discount.

Curry reportedly got annoyed because the company wasn’t investing enough in him or the Curry Brand. Imagine sitting courtside, watching Caitlin Clark become the biggest needle mover in basketball, and deciding the best move is to shortchange her.

That is the type of decision that makes a superstar start walking toward the exit. tThat is exactly what happened. Curry is now regularly showing up in Jordans and Nikes. It is jarring to see after almost a decade of him carrying Under Armour on his back.

Nike Isn’t Innocent Either

Nike gave Clark the bag and the logo, and then delivered a design so boring her entire fanbase torched it online. And the fact that she still does not have a signature shoe is ridiculous. Caitlin Clark is shaping the entire basketball economy. She should have had a signature shoe before she even stepped on the court in Indiana.

Caitlin Clark is on a generational run for the WNBA

It is the same problem everywhere. WNBA leadership, brands, media, you name it. People keep treating Caitlin Clark like she is a good young player instead of the reason the league has record attendance and record revenue.

WNBA fumbles Caitlin Clark as they are set to lose $40 million this season, further proving it’s the worst ran league in the history of sports

If you want proof of Clark’s power, ask Under Armour. Their biggest star started pulling away because the company insulted the biggest star in the sport. If you want a master class in misreading the moment, this is it.

Stephen Curry in Jordans and Nike shoes on a nightly basis is a wild sight. And it all traces back to Under Armour fumbling Caitlin Clark like they have never watched basketball a day in their lives.
