Black Friday Meltdown: Eagles offense fails again in embarrassing home loss to the Bears

The Philadelphia Eagles are now 8-4 after getting completely dominated by the Chicago Bears on Black Friday. The final score was 24-15, but anyone who watched knows it was not that close.

Chicago pushed the Eagles around for four quarters and walked out of Lincoln Financial Field looking like the team fighting for a championship. Philadelphia looked like a team trying to remember how to play football.

Chicago ran the ball directly through the Eagles for 281 rushing yards. Kyle Monangai finished with 130 yards and a touchdown. D’Andre Swift added 125 yards and a score. Two different Chicago backs topped 100 yards on a day where the Bears averaged whatever they wanted on the ground.

Chicago finished with 85 plays to Philadelphia’s 51. They had 28 first downs. They had 425 total yards. Meanwhile, the Eagles needed garbage time to even reach 317 yards.

Ben Johnson has the Bears playing like a complete team. They are now 9 and 3, in first place in the NFC North, and riding a five game win streak. Chicago looked physical, motivated, and prepared. The exact opposite of the team wearing midnight green.

Two weeks ago, it felt like the Eagles were in control of the NFC East and trending toward another deep playoff run. Instead, they blew a 21-0 lead in Dallas and followed that disaster by failing to show up at home against a Bears team that entered the season with no expectations.

The offense is broken, the fans know it, and the stadium spent most of the afternoon booing and chanting for Kevin Patullo to be fired.

Honestly, no one can blame them.

The offense is a complete mess

Yes, Jalen Hurts threw for 230 yards. Yes, A. J. Brown put up 132 yards and two touchdowns while clearly frustrated all game. Those numbers came after three and a half quarters of lifeless football.

In the first half, the Eagles ran 17 total plays. They had two first downs. They gained 83 yards. They rushed for 26 yards. This was against a Chicago defense that entered the game missing three linebackers and is one of the worst run defenses in the NFL.

Saquon Barkley ran for 56 yards and found no space. The offensive line got bullied all afternoon. The passing game had no rhythm. The penalties continued. The missed throws continued. The drops continued. Every drive felt like an uphill battle.

And when the Eagles finally had a chance to take control, they made it worse.

The tush push failed at the worst possible moment

Down 10 to 9 late in the third quarter, deep in Bears territory, the Eagles attempted the one play they always trust. Hurts fumbled the tush push and Chicago recovered. That moment flipped the entire game.

Chicago immediately ripped off a 31 yard run. Caleb Williams converted a critical fourth down. Monangai punched in a four yard touchdown to make it 17 to 9. And on the next drive, Williams delivered the knockout punch with a 28 yard touchdown to Cole Kmet for a 24 to 9 lead.

At that point, fans left the stadium in waves. The boos turned into silence. The frustration turned into resignation.

Chicago pushed the Eagles around from the opening whistle. Swift became the first running back to hit 100 yards against the Eagles all season. Caleb Williams did not even play well and still completed the throws he needed to. The Bears were the tougher team. The Bears were the smarter team. The Bears were the more disciplined team.

Meanwhile, the reigning Super Bowl champions looked overwhelmed. They looked uncomfortable. They looked confused. Every week it is becoming more obvious that the Eagles are playing with no identity and no direction.

Sirianni and Patullo look lost

There is no more defending the offense. They are not improving. They are not adjusting. They are not creating anything easy for Hurts. They are not using their playmakers correctly. They are not blocking consistently. The Eagles have been trending downward since early October and this loss felt like the boiling point.

Hurts missed throws. The line missed assignments. The receivers dropped passes. The route concepts were stale. The situational decisions were a disaster. The attempted two point conversion late in the fourth quarter made no sense. The failure to go for it earlier made even less sense. It was the same issues over and over again with zero solutions.

If this does not feel like the collapse of 2023 all over again, it should.

The fans had every right to boo. If anyone thinks Philadelphia fans are classless for demanding more from the most expensive offense in the NFL, then they are simply not built for this city. Expectations matter. Standards matter. This team is not meeting them.

The Eagles fall to 8-4 and suddenly look like a team searching for answers. The defense struggled to stop the run but at least forced two huge stops and an interception. The offense gave them nothing.

The team now has a mini bye before a Monday night matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Two weeks ago that looked like a win. Today, no one can say that with confidence.

The Eagles are spiraling. The schedule is not getting easier. The problems are not fixing themselves. Unless something changes fast, this season is heading in a direction Philadelphia knows all too well.
