Report: Eagles tried to claim Darius Slay, but Buffalo beat them to it

Right after the Steelers cut Darius Slay, we told you the Eagles were gearing up for a reunion. Turns out, that didn’t happen — Buffalo swooped in and grabbed him off waivers. And based on the reporting, they were the only thing standing in the way.

According to Ian Rapoport, Philly did put in a claim for their former starting corner. The problem? The Bills were ahead of them in the waiver order, so they got first crack and snatched him up.

Eagles were this close to bringing back Darius Slay

I have a hard time believing Slay was going to waltz in and magically fix the season. CB2 has been a problem all year, sure, but it’s hardly the fatal flaw here. Still, he likely would’ve been an upgrade over what they’re trotting out now — not that that’s saying much.

Howie Roseman has already taken a couple swings trying to fix the corner room — trading for Jakorian Bennett in the preseason and even attempting to sign Jaire Alexander before he decided to retire out of nowhere.

Now, they’re rolling forward with Adoree Jackson and Kelee Ringo next to Quinyon Mitchell. Not ideal, but this is the hand they’re playing.
