Release the #LanesteinFiles III: Lane Kiffin lied about Ole Miss players wanting him to stay and coach for the playoffs
I didn’t think it’d be necessary, but a third volume of the #LanesteinFiles is in order. Lane Kiffin released a statement ahead of his departure from Oxford that had some standard platitudes, but there was one line that stood out: both he and the players wanted him to stay and coach the playoff. Apparently, that statement was less than true.
If you haven’t read Part I and/or Part II, I highly recommend you do. If you already have, welcome back, and let’s dive in.
Some Ole Miss players publicly pushed back on the statement, and one even made a TikTok bashing Lane Kiffin:

God dammit, Lane. You pretty little liar, you.
I mean, that’s pretty damning stuff right there. Sure, none of this is as juicy as the contents of the first two parts of the story. But not much can beat horny DMs to college students, drugs from a guy named Tyler, hot yoga antics, and, of course, dog fraud.
I do not doubt that this will blow over and be forgotten about with all of the other salacious details I’ve already covered, but putting words in the mouths of the kids you’re abandoning is probably the most damning piece.
This whole saga has been weird, and both Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss have taken shot after shot at each other. I don’t blame him for leaving, but there’s a point you just walk away and don’t posture like the players were desperate to keep you.
Instead, just come clean and say you made it up. There’s real power in that.
