Report: Eagles were offered a huge draft haul for AJ Brown, still said no

For anyone who’s been paying attention, the Eagles have never actually wanted to trade AJ Brown. And AJ Brown has never actually wanted out of Philadelphia. The whole thing was always a stupid, brain-dead read of the situation — something anyone with two functioning brain cells could’ve figured out.

Still, with free agency right around the corner, the rumors refuse to die. Multiple reports say the Eagles have taken calls on Brown, but Howie Roseman hasn’t budged. If any team actually wants to pry him away from Philly, it’s going to take an absurd draft haul, and probably a player thrown in for good measure.

One team that appears to genuinely be trying is the New England Patriots. According to Anthony Gargano and Mike Garafolo, New England offered Roseman a first- and third-round pick in the upcoming draft.

Still no dice.

The way Howie Roseman is handling this AJ Brown situation tells you everything you need to know. The Eagles don’t want to trade him. If a first- and third-round pick isn’t enough to get it done, I’m not sure many teams are lining up to sweeten the pot much more than that.

Unless the Patriots are that desperate. In that case, by all means, give us a call.

I love AJ I don’t want him gone either. But if New England bumps that third up to a second and throws a player into the mix, it becomes a tougher conversation. Brown will be 29 next season, and his game is built on physicality. That’s the kind of receiver who can fall off a cliff pretty quickly, we’ve seen it before with guys like Deebo Samuel. Not that they’re the same player. AJ is better, don’t get it twisted.

Still, if the Patriots want to give up that kind of haul for a receiver approaching 30, I wouldn’t lose sleep over it. I just don’t see it happening, and more importantly, I don’t think Howie has any real interest in budging here.
