Union First Win CF Montreal

Union get first win of the season coming from behind to beat CF Montreal 2-1

The Philadelphia Union got their first win of the 2026 MLS season on Saturday afternoon in Montreal, coming from behind to beat CF Montreal 2-1 at Stade Saputo. It was not pretty for long stretches but three points on the road in a comeback is three points on the road in a comeback.

Montreal opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when Ivan Jaime finished a shot to the bottom right corner off a feed from Efrain Morales. The Union spent the rest of the first half trying to find an equalizer without much success.

Bueno nearly tied it just before the break with a rocket from the top of the box that forced a diving save. Andre Blake was the reason it stayed 1-0 heading into halftime with a pair of important stops including one that went to VAR and was correctly ruled clean.

The second half was a different team. Iloski served in a free kick in the 55th minute and Japhet Sery Larsen redirected it at the near post for a glancing header past the keeper to tie it. His first goal in a Union uniform.

The momentum shifted immediately. Bradley Carnell brought on Ezekiel Alladoh in the 66th minute and the substitute had an instant impact, picking out a Bueno run in the 70th minute that gave Philadelphia their first lead of the 2026 league season.

The Union held on from there. Carnell tightened things up defensively in the 80s and despite Montreal pushing for an equalizer the three points were never seriously threatened. Makhanya and Bedoya nearly put a third in with five minutes left but the Union settled for the 2-1 win.

First win. About time. The Union come home to Subaru Park next Saturday for a rivalry match against DC United on April 18th.
