Eagles O-Line Notes Week 14

During the Eagles victory on Sunday, there were a lot of huge adjustments in play across the board for Philadelphia. Jalen Hurts and Miles Sanders stole the show but there were other great performances that haven’t gotten the credit they deserve. The Eagles’ offensive line allowed 0 sacks against one of the best defenses in football. Not only did they dominate in pass protection, but they helped Sanders and Hurts combine for over 220 yards on the ground.
Jason Peters season-ending injury changed the starting group for the 12th time this season. This helped continue the pace for one of the most historically injured offensive lines ever. It propelled Nate Herbig back into a starting role as he continues to cemented himself as a key piece to this franchise’s future at guard. Jack Driscoll started the second week in a row and looked just as good as he did earlier this season.
Often Jason Kelce gets the credit for being a fantastic open field blocker and rightfully so. He isn’t alone though. Isaac Seumalo has been downright incredible these last few games since he has returned.
Often being used in pull schemes to be a lead blocker Seumalo is truly is a sight to see. His duty often being Sanders’ lead blocker is one of the main reasons the rushing game has been so productive. Without Seumalo, the dropoff is clear from him to Peters, Pryor, and Herbig.
Jordan Mailata continues week in and week out to looks better and better each week. Mailata absolutely rag-dolled the Saints defensive line and the more he shows his strength the scarier he is. Going into 2021 there is a huge controversy that is going to loom between him and Andre Dillard at left tackle. The youth movement from Mailata, Herbig, and Jack Driscoll this season is phenomenal. Add in Matt Pryor and you have nine linemen you could start and grow for the future.
Looking ahead at the Arizona Cardinals next week the player to watch is former Temple graduate Hasson Reddick. During last week’s game against the New York Giants, Reddick finished with 5 sacks and two tackles for loss. Jordan Mailata has been great against opposing star linemen but if Reddick lines up on Driscoll that could be a possible scary matchup.
