The Eagles have agreed to terms with Jonathan Gannon to be their new Defensive Coordinator

It looks like Pat McAfee was right. According to reports, the Eagles are hiring Colts defensive backs coach Jonathan Gannon to be their new defensive coordinator. Per Ian Rapaport, the deal is officially done and Sirianni is ready to focus on hiring the rest of his coaching staff, which he has already begun doing. All things considered, it sounds like the Eagles are giving Sirianni the keys to build his own foundation in Philadelphia, which is exactly what should be done.

Rumors have been circulating that Gannon was a possibility for the Eagles for several days. Yesterday on the Pat McAfee show, Lombardi hinted that Gannon could be the next defensive coordinator for the Eagles.

Gannon has been with the Colts since 2018. Before arriving in Indianapolis, Gannon coached in Minnesota as an assistant defensive backs coach. Gannonโ€™s defensive backs group was above average during his three years with the Colts, always ranking top ten in interceptions.

Several people have had Gannon rumored to be a defensive coordinator target for the Eagles and across the league. Jonathan was a leading candidate for the Falcons DC job and was set to interview with the Los Angeles Chargers shortly.

The Eagles had a lot of interest in Gannon before Sirianni was even hired. Josh McDaniels was supposedly going to hire him to be his defensive coordinator as well. Jonathan is now the successor to Jim Schwartz and hopefully can continue the dominant defensive line and continue to improve the Eagles secondary.

More coaching news will likely be on the way shortly. Dave Fipp was allowed to search for other coaching opportunities yesterday. The search now turns to who will be the Eagles next offensive coordinator.
