Are the Eagles promoting Jordan Howard to the 53 man roster?

Despite being on the practice squad, it looks like Nick Sirianni has plans for Jordan Howard this season. According to Clinic Cap on Twitter, Sirianni appeared on Good Morning Football and discussed the upcoming season. During the interview, Sirianni said he views Jordan Howard as a big piece of the team’s rushing attack in 2021.

The only thing that is confusing here is that Howard is on the practice squad. Per NFL rules, practice squad players can be activated at any time before the inactive report is released 90 minutes before kickoff. Any practice squad player can be part of the 53 man roster twice a season, with a maximum of two practice squad players being active a week.

So, why would Sirianni say Howard is a big part of their plans if he can only play in two games this season? Philly just finalized their final 53 and practice squad, so it doesn’t seem like any move is imminent, but Jack Driscoll and a few players just moved to the Reserved/Injured list yesterday. By doing that, three spots on the active roster opened up for the Eagles.

While those players are out, it looks like Jordan Howard will be one of the three players filling an active roster spot. Philly’s running back room is deep, with Miles Sanders, Kenny Gainwell, and Boston Scott all ahead of Howard. Opening day is just around the corner for the Eagles, who play the Atlanta Falcons on September 12th.
