Jalen Hurts’ leadership continues to prove he is the Eagles’ franchise quarterback

With each passing week, it’s getting harder to say that Jalen Hurts isn’t the franchise quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. Hurts continues to look better and better while possessing incredible leadership qualities that this team needs and looks towards. Following the Eagles’ win over the Saints yesterday afternoon, Jalen Hurts wasn’t satisfied with what they’ve done, feeling they could’ve been far better.
This team has really bought into Nick Sirianni and the idea of hard work and getting out what you put in at practice. Throughout the season, Hurts has been phenomenal at getting the most out of his teammates, quizzing them at practice, and hosting workouts in the offseason together.
Even when asked about the identity of this football team, you can’t argue Jalen Hurts isn’t a natural leader.
“It’s a mentality, it’s an approach, it’s the detail you put in day in and day out throughout the week. It’s being physical, it’s wanting it, it’s effort. We’re a dang good football team. And we’re still evolving, we’re still growing”
The intangibles have always been there for the sophomore quarterback, and the skills are finally catching up to it. After today, Hurts is 5th in the NFL with eight rushing touchdowns, first amongst all quarterbacks. Meanwhile, he is 10th in rushing yards and right behind Lamar Jackson with 618, averaging over 5.4 yards per carry.
It’s not like his feet are the only thing impressive about Hurts on the field. He has thrown for 2,300 yards on the season and is on pace for 3,500 yards and 4,455 total. Ever since Brian Johnson came to the sideline to help alongside a heavier focus on running the football, it has been a night and day difference.
In just a month, it went from the Eagles likely needing a new coach and starting quarterback again to a likely shot at the playoffs. To finish off his media availability, Jalen Hurts left us with a quote we’re all too familiar with but shows the drive of this group.
“Rent is due every day. That’s the identity of this football team.”
