Redemption Song: Beercan Bets Week Two Results
Ladies and gentlemen, we can officially declare ourselves “born again” sports bettors. This week on Beercan Bets, we avoided disaster in Memphis. The Grizzlies defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 116-108, giving our journey to $25,000 a huge moral boost in the process.
Last night, we locked in the Grizzles -165 with our starting bet of $25 and took home a winning bet of $15.25 to add to next weeks total, which now stands at $40.25.
The game was closer than I would have liked.
Listen, we aren’t historians, we are gamblers. I could sit here and tell you how I sweated out my other pick that I passed on in favor of the Grizzlies, but at this point, there’s no reason to do so. So what if the Bucks won and were at -110 odds? A win is a win and now we have something to build on next week.
I’m not going to lie, when Ja Morant only had three points at halftime, I was pretty sure I’d given the Grizzlies the “Beercan Kiss of Death.” I was fully prepared to charter a private jet out to Memphis and wear a KAT jersey into FedExForum just to get a rise out of him.
Luckily I didn’t have to do that.
The Timberwolves maintained solid control over the tempo of the game until the third quarter. That’s when the tide turned thanks to Ja Morant finally getting going on offense. He’d finish the game with 19 points. The Grizzlies pulled even with the Timberwolves and never really fell behind significantly again.
Now we have to fight the urge to cash out our winnings.
I know it’s tempting. You can afford to buy a family of 3 a fairly nice McDonalds dinner for $40.25 these days. But you have to resist the urge to live like a high roller for another week. We have more winning to do.
The Beercan Bets journey from $25 to $25k continues next Thursday in the meantime, make sure you get in on this Wild Card Weekend promotion for the Philadelphia Eagles, who are down in Tampa Bay to take on Tom Brady and the Buccaneers at 1PM on Sunday.
