Phillies Roster Moves: Simon Muzziotti set to replace injured Mickey Moniak on Opening Day Roster

23-year-old Phillies prospect Simon Muzziotti is heading to the big leagues for the first time in his career, according to reports. Muzziotti will take the place of Mickey Moniak, who will miss 4-6 weeks with a hairline fracture in his right hand.
Simon Muzziotti is the only healthy, true centerfielder that the team has on the roster now other than Vierling, so this call-up was a no-brainer. The Phillies could explore a trade in the coming days that would benefit them for the first few weeks of the season, with no timetable on Odubel Herrera’s return.Â
Muzziotti hit .296/.375/.380 in just 20 games last season, ranging from Low-A all the way up to Triple-A. His best stint was with Jersey Shore, where he hit .412/.474/.471 in four games. He also took place in the Arizona Fall League with Bryson Stott, playing 20 games and getting 83 at-bats. He hit .254/.398/.269, with 13 RBIs, 17 hits, and 10 runs scored.
Matt Vierling is now sure to be in centerfield tomorrow, with Simon Muzziotti as the backup for the time being. A tough break for Moniak, who had an absolutely amazing Spring Training.
