MLB Futures: Bryson Stott, Matt Vierling, and Mickey Moniak Odds to win National League Rookie of the Year

We already ran through some MLB futures last week and today, we’re looking at the National League Rookie of the Year.

Bryson Stott (+900)
Bryson Stott checks in with the fourth best odds out of the National League at +900, behind Seiya Suzuki (+350), Oneil Cruz (+425), and Hunter Greene (+700).
Stott has fast-tracked his way into the perfect position to secure a starting job on the Phillies Opening Day roster. The 2019 first round pick out of UNLV spent just two years in the minor leagues, slashed a career .298/.390/.488 with a .878 OPS over 160 games with 35 doubles, five triples, 22 home runs, and 76 RBI.
From there, Stott participated in the Arizona Fall League and landed himself on the All-AFL Team, playing in 26 games, slashing .318/.445/.489, with 2 HRs, 31 RBIs, 7 doubles, 5 stolen bases, 24 walks, and an OPS of .934 over 26 games. He led the AFL in RBIs, led the shortstop position in runs, hits, doubles, RBIs, and walks.
Expectations were high entering Spring Training this year and he continues to impress every time he takes the field during camp. Stott is slashing .522/.607/.739 line in 23 at-bats this spring, with four runs scored, 12 hits, two doubles, one home run, and three RBIs.
Matt Vierling (+2500)
Vierling was in a Phillies uniform at the end of last season, appearing in 34 games, slashing .324/.364/.479 with an .843 OPS. He notched 23 hits in 71 at-bats with three doubles, a triple, two home runs, and six RBI.
With Odubel Herrera injured and Adam Haseley getting traded to the Chicago White Sox, Matt Vierling is likely to get the nod to start in centerfield for the Philadelphia Phillies on Opening Day, with Mickey Moniak right behind him. However, Vierling hasn’t really impressed this Spring, slashing just .194/.242/.597 with six hits and six RBI in 31 at-bats.
If I was managing the Phillies, there’s no shot that Moniak wouldn’t be the Opening Day starter in center. Ride the hot hand and keep Mick getting every day at-bats. He’s impressed too much this Spring to put him on the Phillies’ roster and not play him every day.
Mickey Moniak – (+5000) #WhyNotMick?
The Liberty Line remains high on Mickey Moniak while the baseball “casuals” on Twitter can’t help themselves from calling the 23-year old, 2016 first overall pick from a bust.
Of course, they have no idea what they are talking about. The irony of calling Moniak a bust at 23 years old while also calling Stott (24) the future of the Phillies franchise goes right over their heads.
No one is giving Moniak a fair chance at proving himself. Hell, even at the start of Spring Training this year, Phillies manager Joe Girardi said that Mick wasn’t even being considered to land a spot on the Opening Day roster.
Now everything has changed and Moniak is a lock for a roster spot and to date, is still fighting to land the starting job in centerfield with Matt Vierling. The 23-year-old is hitting .269/.269/.731 in 26 at-bats, with 3 HRs, 6 RBIs, 7 hits, and 3 doubles this Spring.
