Weekend Rips: Phillies hope for redemption, Eagles take on Browns

My fellow Philadelphians, this weekend is coming in HOT. In the sports world, there’s action from the diamond to in gridiron. The Phillies welcome the Mets for a four-game set, the Eagles take on Cleveland, and beers are certain to flow across the Delaware Valley. A beautiful sight; well worth the wait.
Fortunately, we here at The Liberty Line didn’t have to wait until the weekend to get in on the action via the Twitter timeline. We’ll continue the party tonight in Atlantic City with our good friends, the Armentani Bros. But more on that later.
Phillies Weekend Update:
The Phillies have come back to earth juuust a bit. They’re 6-4 in their last 10 and had a frustrating series against the Mets where the offense put up two runs across three games.
After somewhat rebounding against the Reds this week, the Fightins have an opportunity to face the Mets at The Bank. A four-game redemption sweep would be a thing of beauty, and our Phillies writer Luke Arcaini thinks three of four is more than possible.
DeGrom and Scherzer aren’t pitching this weekend, and the city is desperate for a Red October. So it’s up to the Phils to get it done.
You can read Luke’s full series preview here.
The first game is tonight at 7:05 pm, with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:05 pm and 7:15 pm. Finally, they close out with a day game at 1:35.
All the games will be on NBCS Philly, so we won’t have to listen to a national broadcast drool over Edwin Diaz’s kazoo entrance or whatever the fuck.

Eagles Preseason Week 2
The Birds are taking on the Browns in their second preseason game. The team has looked good against them all week, drawing effusive praise from local media at points throughout the week.
The most intriguing prospect is how DeVonta Smith and AJ Brown will perform. Both receivers cooked the Cleveland Browns secondary during joint practices this week, so there’s no reason that shouldn’t continue on Sunday.
Smitty has also emerged as a preeminent trash-talker on the Eagles offense. He was seen jawing with a former Georgia opponent from his days as a Heisman winner.
Jalen Hurts also drew praise for commanding the offense against a quality defense. It’s been an up and down preseason, but these joint practices have tipped the scales in his favor. So the tweets have been kind to him… for now.
The Liberty Line stands firmly behind Jalen Hurts as the Eagles QB1 (until we don’t anymore, that is).
It’s that Hurts time of year, baby! Maybe I’ll put that on a hat; how hard could it be?
The game against the Browns is Sunday at 1:00 pm.
The Liberty Line Update: Barstool plays the fool
For nearly 24 hours yesterday, Barstool Philly was crying up a storm on the TLL Twitter timeline because of the following tweet:
You can go through the thread of replies where not one but two Barstool Philly employees tried to flex their non-existent muscles on The Liberty Line, while making fools of themselves every step of the way. I really don’t have much else to say about it, Drew and Victor handled that and the guys in question still don’t understand that Barstool Sports is an absolute machine that cannot be stopped, regardless if they actually work there or not. Jesus Christ boys, you aren’t Dave Portnoy.
TLL heads to Premier AC
Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come.
Friends of the site The Armentani Brothers invited us to watch them on the ones and twos at Premier Nightclub in Atlantic City. Their latest single “Next to You” has nearly one million streams and counting. If you’re in AC, stop by and say hi.
If you’re not, give the boys a stream. You won’t regret it.
Regardless of where you are or what you’re doing this weekend, get outside and enjoy the weather. Float down a river, slug beers, and do what you have to do to savor the remaining weeks of Summer.
And buy the REAL Red October shirt.
