Eagles Roundup: Everything you need to know for the Week 4 matchup between Philadelphia and Jacksonville

The vibes are up in Philadelphia (in regards to the Eagles at least).
Sitting at 3-0 entering Week 4, the Eagles are the only undefeated team remaining in 2022. It’s the first time they’ve held that status since the 2004 season.
A familiar face will attempt to upend Philly’s hot streak this Sunday, as former head coach Doug Pederson makes his return to the Lincoln Financial Field sidelines as the HC of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Pederson’s new team has gotten off to an impressive as well, winning back-to-back games by a combined score of 72-10. At 2-1, Jacksonville could establish their legitimacy with an upset victory in Philly.
Per DraftKings sportsbook, Philadelphia is 6.5-point favorites (-110) in Week 4, with the over/under point total set at 45.5.
Sunday’s matchup will kickoff at 1 PM at The Linc and will be aired on CBS, NFL+, and Paramount+.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of kickoff between Philly and Jacksonville.
Eagles final injury report
The Eagles will be without a few contributors on Sunday. Backup RB Boston Scott and starting nickel corner Avonte Maddox have been ruled out for Sunday.
With Scott and Maddox set to miss Sunday’s action, RB Trey Sermon and practice squad defensive back Andre Chachere are expected to make their 2022 debuts against Jacksonville. The team also officially signed PR Britain Covey to the active roster after elevating him from the practice squad for the first three weeks.
Key matchups, breakdowns for Eagles-Jaguars
Following their third straight win to start the year, Philadelphia has gotten a ton of praise from national media outlets. Pro Football Focus, specifically, has given Philly their props every step of the way in 2022.
PFF’s praise continued after the Eagles bulldozed Carson Wentz and the Commanders in Week 3.

A lot was made about the Eagles defense after their nine-sack outing in Washington. The defensive front certainly deserves to be recognized for their dominance, but it’s about time we start giving LB TJ Edwards his due as well.
Edwards has been the unsung hero of Jonathan Gannon’s defense in 2022. He’s playing the best football of his career and it doesn’t look it’ll subside anytime soon.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Eagles WR tandem of AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith have been stealing headlines all season. In Week 3, the duo hauled in a combined 13 catches for 254 yards and two touchdowns.
Entering Week 4, Brown and Smith has accounted for 558 receiving yards, the second-most of any tandem in the NFL. It may be a small sample size, but it’s safe to say the Eagles’ pass catching duo is already one of the best in the league.

At 3-0, it’s hard to really complain about anything the Eagles have done so far. Both their offense and defense have played like top-10 units thus far and the team is fresh off back-to-back convincing wins.
But we want perfection here in Philadelphia — no matter how unrealistic that expectation may be. One look at how the special teams unit has fared through three weeks and it’s apparent that this Eagles squad still has some work to do before their a truly elite team.

Rookie first-round pick Jordan Davis had high expectation entering his first season with the Birds.
He had trouble finding his footing through the first two weeks of the season, but he flashed his unworldly potential against Washington, and PFF took notice.

Entering the 2022 season, no one really expected much out Jacksonville. Through three games, they’ve managed to silence a lot of their doubters.
Led by their No. 1 ranked run defense and HC-QB duo of Pederson and Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville looks like a legitimate playoff contender at this point. If the Eagles aren’t careful and fail to win these three key matchups, they could suffer their first loss of the season on Sunday.

Along with their No. 1 run defense, Jacksonville’s defense as a whole has been very impressive thus far. They’re currently seventh in the league in yards allowed and rank fourth in defensive DVOA.
Led by former Tampa Bay defensive assistant Mike Caldwell — one of the coaches who helped devise Tampa’s game plan against the Eagles in the postseason last year — this Jaguars defense could cause serious issues for Jalen Hurts.
Hurts has been marvelous to start the season, but he’s yet to prove that he can put up solid numbers against an elite defensive unit. On Sunday, we’ll find out if he can.

From the players, coaches, and media
There are legitimate reasons to be cautious in anointing Hurts as the Eagles franchise quarterback right now. Using his record against other starting quarterbacks he’s faced is not one of them.
Earlier this week, FS1 pundit and former Eagles LB Emmanuel Acho laid out one of the silliest, most braindead arguments anyone could have against Hurts.

While Acho was busy talking a bunch of mumbo jumbo this week, a Dallas Cowboys legend decided to chime in on Hurts and his Eagles as well.
And surprisingly enough, he had nothing but positive things to say. That’s right, Hall of Fame WR Michael Irvin gushed over the Eagles this week. From QB1 to the dynamic duo the Eagles have at wideout, Irvin was over the moon with his praise on “The Rich Eisen Show.”

If you haven’t already heard, the Eagles have Batman on their roster. Three of them, in fact.
CB Darius Slay crowned the WR trio of Brown, Smith, and Quez Watkins as the three batmans after Week 2 and it’s stuck ever since.
Feeling a bit left out of the loop, Jason Kelce decided to join the party, telling his brother Travis that the next time Philly scores on a screen, the All-Pro center will dawn the cape and become ‘Fat Batman.’

With his return to Philly on the horizon, Pederson was bombarded with questions about his former team all throughout the week.
As the only coach in Eagles history to win a Super Bowl, Pederson remains uncertain of what his reception will be when he walks onto the field Sunday. Spoiler alert: he’s going to be greeted with cheers and applause.
