Brooks was signed as an undrafted free agent this offseason. Because of his big frame and north-south running style, some believed he’d eventually get a crack in the running back rotation. The former Oklahoma back hasn’t seen the field yet this season.
Johnson, 26, was selected in the fifth-round of the 2017 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. The former Brown has bounced around the league during his career, appearing in 29 games and making six starts.
Following these two roster moves, the Eagles practice squad is now down to 14 players
Eagles Practice Squad:
- WR Devon Allen
- S Marquise Blair
- LB Christian Elliss
- CB Mario Goodrich
- CB Javelin Guidry
- OT Fred Johnson
- DE Tarron Jackson
- WR Greg Ward
- OG Tyrese Robinson
- LB Davion Taylor
- TE Noah Togiai
- C Cameron Tom
- DT Marvin Wilson
- DE Matt Leo (Exempt)
Expect the front office to fill the vacancies left by Johnson and Brooks in the coming days. With S CJ Gardner-Johnson expected to miss substantial time with a lacerated kidney, the team could look to add some extra depth in the defensive backfield.
