Updated look at Jalen Hurts’ MVP odds following injury news

What’s an Eagles season without some existential dread sprinkled in there, am I right?
On Monday, we learned that QB Jalen Hurts injured his throwing shoulder during Sunday’s contest in Chicago. Per reports, x-rays came back negative and the injury isn’t considered season ending. He’s not officially ruled out for Saturday’s Christmas Eve matchup in Dallas, but all signs are pointing towards Gardner Minshew getting the start.
In totality, Hurts missing a game or two before the postseason isn’t the end of the world from the Eagles standpoint. They only need to win one of their last three games to secure home field advantage throughout the postseason. That’s certainly achievable given the remaining schedule.
What is in question, however, is Hurts’ MVP candidacy.
Heading into Week 15, Hurts was the odds-on favorite to take home the award. Now that he’s potentially going to miss the rest of the regular season, Hurts has dropped all the way to +600 to win MVP, giving him the fourth-best odds, per DraftKings Sportsbook.
Jalen Hurts remains in the top-five for MVP odds
Player | Odds |
Patrick Mahomes | -350 |
Josh Allen | +550 |
Joe Burrow | +550 |
Jalen Hurts | +600 |
Justin Jefferson | +10000 |
Kansas City gunslinger Patrick Mahomes leads the charge now at -350, followed by Joe Burrow and Josh Allen, who both sit at +550.
Behind Hurts, Justin Jefferson and Tua Tagovailoa both sit at +10000 to take home MVP.
Even if Jalen Hurts only misses the upcoming game against Dallas, he’ll still be fighting an uphill battle to win MVP. For all intents and purposes, the Christmas Eve game was going to decide the MVP race for Hurts. If he manages to play on Saturday and puts on a show, Hurts should jump right back to the top of the odds.
