Eagles request interview with Seahawks associate head coach for vacant DC job

During yesterday’s end-of-season press conference, Nick Sirianni stated the team would look in-house and outside the organization to find a new defensive coordinator.
The Eagles have already requested an interview with former Cardinals DC Vance Joseph and have their eyes on another candidate as well.
According to NFL Insider Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, Philadelphia has requested permission to speak with Seahawks associate head coach Sean Desai.

Desai, 39, has ties to the area as a Temple graduate and was the right-hand man for HC Pete Carroll in Seattle last season. Considered one of the NFL’s rising stars, Desai coached at Temple, Miami, and Boston College before joining the Bears in 2013, where he learned under Vic Fangio and eventually became the DC.
It’s no secret how much Philadelphia respects Fangio; the team speaking with his disciple was expected. With Desai leading the defense in 2021, Chicago allowed 191.6 passing yards per game (3rd), 316.7 total yards per game (6th), and ranked 4th in the league with 49 sacks.
Desai was also the NFL’s first coordinator of Indian descent.
“I sat next to [Fangio], so I was able to reflect on every game, within the game and after the game of why certain things happened, certain situations, why he called that,” Desai said in 2021. “Now, does that mean I’m going to do it the same way? No. Would he want me to do it the same way? No, right? This is going to be Sean Desai’s defense.”
