Preview: Phillies travel down to Atlanta; Aaron Nola takes the mound vs. Braves at 7:20 EST

The Philadelphia Phillies open up a 4-game set with the division-rival Atlanta Braves tonight at 7:20 EST.
Starting Pitchers
- Aaron Nola (4-3, 4.31 ERA)
- Dylan Dodd (2-1, 6.46 ERA)
Wednesday’s matinee win vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks had all of the drama you could possibly imagine. Trea Turner, who has been in a massive slump, crushed a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 9th inning to push the game to extra innings.

The top of the tenth inning turned into an ump show. Josh Rojas was called for a pitch-clock violation with two strikes and one out but then was waived off by the umpires. The home-plate umpire then proceeded to call a violation on Kimbrel after waiting on the mound for ten minutes while the umpires were trying to save themselves from looking like idiots.

The Phillies would eventually win the game in the bottom of the 10th inning thanks to an Alec Bohm rope to the right-center wall, pushing the Phils to a crucial 6-5 victory.
Now 23-26 on the season, the Fightins travel down to Atlanta to take on the always-lethal Atlanta Braves. The Braves sit at 30-19 on the year and are being led by Ronald Acuna Jr, who has been absolutely insane in 2023, slashing .330/.419/.576 with 11 HRs and 27 RBIs in 49 games.
The Braves have always been a very lethal home team, but that’s not the case this year. They’re just one game above .500 in Atlanta in 2023, compared to a whopping 17-7 on the road.
The Phillies have a nice chance to go on a run here as they match up against two extremely mediocre pitchers for Atlanta…Dylan Dodd tonight, and Jared Shuster tomorrow.
