D'Andre Swift 1000 Yard Season

WATCH: D’Andre Swift inches closer to first 1,000 yard rushing season, makes it clear he only cares about winning football games

With all of the storylines surrounding the Philadelphia Eagles this season, one stands above the rest. ‘Run The Ball’ has returned to the forefront of Birds fans’ battle cries this year and one of the main reasons why is D’Andre Swift.

While the Eagles’ offense is still trying to “come together” after 15 games played this season (lol), the numbers on paper are honestly pretty impressive despite the always questionable play calling of first year offensive coordinator Brian Johnson.

Eagles offense on paper looks impressive…

  • Jalen Hurts: 35 TOTAL TD (2nd in NFL)
  • AJ Brown: 101 REC | 1,394 YDS | 7 TD
  • DeVonta Smith: 78 REC | 1,036 YDS | 7 TD
  • D’Andre Swift: 216 CAR | 988 YDS | 5 TD

D’Andre Swift, while used sparingly at times, has carried the ball 216 times for 988 yards in his debut season with the Philadelphia Eagles. He’ll almost certainly break the 1,000 yard rushing mark with two games remaining in the regular season, which would be the first 1K rushing season of his career.

Following the Eagles’ 33-25 win over the New York Giants on Christmas, Swift was asked about being just 12 yards away from his first 1,000 yard season. He responded by saying “As long as we winning, that’s all I care about.”

D’Andre Swift: “As long as we winning, that’s all I care about.”

“100 percent, yeah, that’s a great benchmark for any running back. So yeah, close to it or whatever. As long as we’re winning, that’s really all I care about, everything else can come after.”

The hometown kid has had an up-and-down year, and it’s great to see all he cares about is winning. Whether it’s been a lack of usage or his production dipping, Swift is definitely “keeping the main thing, the main thing.”

Swift carried the ball 20 times for 92 yards and a touchdown in a 33-25 win against the New York Giants on Christmas Day. His previous career-high in rushing came in 2021, when he rushed for 617 yards with the Detroit Lions.

While this feat is certainly impressive, I’m more impressed with the fact that Swift has been so healthy and reliable all season for the Eagles. Injuries have been something that has plagued him in his NFL career and its definitely possible that the lack of usage at times was intended in order to keep him healthy for a full season.

Swift has played and started all 15 games this season for the Birds. Up until this point, he never played in more than 14 games or started in more than eight during his NFL career.
